Custom built 9" third members

We can custom build a drop in with about any specification you need. 28 or 31 spline, open diff, Lockers, Limited slip etc. New or good used gears with ratios of all types. Typical costs will run $500-575 for rebuilt limited slip and used gears w/ all new bearings and seal. $675-900 for new gears, new limited slip or locker of some type w/all new bearings and seal. Custom built axle assemblies are available to your specs.

We built the 9" rear axles to order. This example was built for a customer in Conneticut. It includes the HD big bearing housing, new 4.56 gears, New Trac loc diff carrier. New 31 spline axles w/taper bearings, disc brake kit from Ford Performance. Axles can be built for many other applications. We have built them for flat track racers, hot rods and all types of four wheelers. Cost is based on how each is equiped. let us know what you need and we will be happy to give you a price quote. We start the rebuild process with a used third member which is fully steam cleaned.

Completely disassemble the thrid member and check for worn or broken parts

Fully clean and glass bead used parts and collect needed new parts. This custom built drop in needs used 3.50 gears and new 31 spline Trac Loc carrier with all new bearings and seal.

Pinion is installed and set up with the proper bearing preload. New seal is installed. Ready to assemble to the case.

Pinion assembly is installed in case. Ready to assemble the carrier/ring gear assembly.

Carrier assembly is installed in case, backlash is set and proper gear mesh pattern is checked with gear tooth grease. Side bearing preload is set

All used parts are cleaned and glass beaded to ensure clean fit. New parts are collected and ready for final assembly.

This kit includes the park brake assembly that uses the inside of the rotor for a very clean install. Backing plates, calipher brackets and axles are assembled after the third member was installed and housing painted.

Disc rotors are drilled for 5x5 1/2 and 5x4 1/2 inch stud spacings. Axles can be drilled to fit your needs.

Axle is complete and ready to ship.
